January 29, 2010

It has been confirmed. Eva will be arriving in the US on January 31st at 4:20PM. We are excited that the new flight was able to be scheduled this weekend.

Thank You Carl & Gretchen

Thank you so much Carl & Gretchen for keeping us so up to date with all of the information that you found out. We would be going nuts here if you were not there!!! Thanks again!

January 29

Yes, I have been up since about 4AM hitting Refresh on my email waiting for news. Very tired! We did hear from Carl and Gretchen this morning at 5:44.
He reported the below:
Short Story: everything worked out. We have visas. Eva is coming home on Sunday and so are Carl/Gretchen and Kai. They leave at 4:40AM and the escort and Eva leave at 9AM from Almaty.

Long Story: Morning Report: they spoke w/Arman in person at hotel at 10:30AM. He said that Tamara spoke w/US Embassy this morning and they assured her the problem has been resolved and the embassy will print visas this afternoon, between 2 to 4. They will call Arman who will pick them up. They did not want them at the embassy this morning because arrangements were already made with Arman.

Arman told Carl that our escort and Eva's tickets were changed to Sunday, and that they would not have made this change if they were not certain the visas would be issued.

They will have to wait until later this afternoon to be sure, but it looks like we're okay.

Afternoon Report: Arman came to their hotel room at 3:30PM. Passport w/Visa in hand and the package full of documents for immigration when they land. They are all set!!!! They will be picked up at 2:00AM on Sunday.

So, we will just wait for a call from CAH with the good news that little Eva will be coming home on Sunday!!!!

January 28

I had to run out earlier and just got back. We need to thank a friend Anne that I work with. She really helped us out today in our bind. She contacted someone she knew in a Congressmans office which was a huge help to us. Thank you Anne!

We heard from Carl and Gretchen (who are in Kazakhstan) again and they reported that it seems to be a snag with a US office in Kentucky, as they're struggling with receiving data from the US Embassy in Kazakhstan. It seems "the data is backlogged", even if no one knew what that meant. The process of Kentucky receiving the data and verifying the information usually takes a few minutes - and then the visa can be issued but it seems Kentucky is not getting the information and thus not verifying the information, so no visa is being issued until the information goes through Kentucky.

We reported all of this information to the Congressmans office (don't know if we shoud mention names but THANK YOU). After a few emails, a letter sent to the US Embassy in Kazakhstan from the Congressman and talking on the phone she reported back to me. I'm sure the US Embassy will be in contact with them in the AM to report all is up and running smooth. She heard from the Kentucky Center and they explained to her that they identified the problem and it has been resolved so there should not be an issue any longer with the Embassy in Kazakhstan. She said things should run smoothly now, the problem on their end in Kentucky has been resolved. It should clear the way for Kazakhstan to issue the visas for our girls.

We are praying that all goes smooth tomorrow for all of us and that Carl, Gretchen and Kai can leave on Sunday as planned as well as hoping Eva and her escort can catch a flight out of Almaty either tomorrow night or Saturday morning.

It is about 8:30AM in Kazakhstan as I am typing this. We are hoping we hear from Carl and Gretchen soon to tell us all went well and the girls can be on their way home!!!!

We will keep you updated with any new news.

January 28

Today has been a roller coaster day for us.

We got a call from Kathy at CAH and she advised us that Eva will not be coming home tomorrow. She forwarded us the email from Kaz. "We found out this morning that Majer & Nassar children could not pass the Embassy interview on reason of computer network failure. The Embassy official said that it is not depended from the Embassy itself. This failure comes from their head office in the US. They do not know when the failure will be solved. So, we think that Majer escort should come back to Karaganda and wait there or stay in Almaty and wait for getting visa. Nassar will stay in Almaty. We will try to change tickets for them on appropriate date after receiving visa."

We heard from Carl & Gretchen today. They originally forgot their cord to their camera to transfer pictures but they ended up finding one in Almaty. Here are a few pictures of Eva with her favorite doctor at the SOS Medical Clinic. This was taken on Tuesday, Jan 26. The other picture is Carl and Kai. One more day and counting!

Eva - Sunday, January 10

Friday was our baby shower at work with friends and today was our baby shower with family and friends. We have such wonderful family and friends. There is currently no room in Eva's room to walk and her closet is chuck full of beautiful outfits that we cannot wait to see her in.

On top of the wonderful showers, we also heard from our friend Angela today that is currently still in Kazakhstan. She received word today that she is not allowed back into Eva's room due to Olin being sick and they are afraid the germs will be passed through her room. We are so glad she was able to get these new photos. They totally are making us miss her more but it is so good to see her smiling face.

Here are the newest photos of Eva taken today. One of the photos is of Eva w/her friend Olin.

December 31

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

December 30

Arrived in the US -JFK at 1:45PM. Plane ride was so long, about 18 hours in the air. Once getting to JFK we got our luggage and jumped on shuttle to go to rental car place. We then started our journey home. The traffic of course was nuts driving from NYC to home. We stopped at a rest stop for an American piece of pizza. YUMMY. Then off to the Albany Airport to drop off the rental car. We arrived at Albany Airport at like 7PM which Scott & Nicholas met us there to drive us home. We arrived home sweet home at ike 7:30PM or so. We had a nice dinner waiting for us. We were both so exhausted than ever. Lisa hit the bed not not long after arriving home. We didn't get much sleep at all during our journey home. Vinnie was so excited to see us and instantly went to bed with Lisa. I think he didn't believe that we were really home.

Both of us were so glad to finally be home to see friends and family as well as we knew that it was a few days closer before we were able to see Eva again.
